4th Sunday Sanctuary

Sunday Night Yoga

6:15 pm - 8:00 pm

Wind down from the weekend and restore through the senses with this extended Sunday night offering.

In this 3-part series Katherine will guide you through a slow-paced Yin Yoga sequence that incorporates elements of Restorative Yoga as well as gentle movements and exercises for functional strength. We’ll explore the benefits of an extended Savasana in the form of Yoga Nidra (yogic awakening).

Yin Yoga can be thought of as a series mini meditations as we safely stress and release tension through the connective tissues.

Seated poses are held in stillness for extended periods of suggested time, while autonomy over one's body and its needs will be explored.

The introspective style of Yin Yoga requests a healthy amount of surrender as we explore physical, mental and potentially emotional edges within ourselves.

Yin tills the soil for a more potent Yoga Nidra journey where consciousness descends through the five Koshas (sheaths), and can be thought of as the energetic preparation to remain relaxed yet aware throughout the most important pose of all: śavāsana, corpse pose.

With practice, we learn to pause, observe, integrate, then respond rather than resist, judge, react or force. There is much freedom in this.

Sunday Sanctuary is your time to first feel and then be—give yourself permission for both.

Please inform Katherine beforehand if pregnant or recovering from injury.

Katherine Hypes

Katherine is a certified yoga teacher and Vibrational Sound Therapy practitioner from Gilroy, California. A student of yoga since 2011 and a facilitator for group classes since 2016, Katherine enjoys curating communal pockets out of time through stillness-based practices of Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and the Tantric practice of Yoga Nidra (yogic awakening through the body).

Katherine offers one-on-on relaxation sessions with Himalayan singing bowls for people seeking a more personal but direct path to inner calm and relaxation. She is grateful for the opportunity to share the practices that have also aided her in feeling more grounded and better resourced to face the daily stressors of life. Connecting with one's nature—to harmonize the inner world with the outer world as the premise of Tantra—is an ongoing exploration and her offerings are just some of many potential pathways to exactly that. She feels that the belief that the body is the meeting place for everything else, that healing does not occur in a vacuum but in the loving presence of another body or bodies. But first and foremost, the journey begins with our own body.

Katherine is also a freelance copy editor. When she isn't reading a book or proofreading an article, you can find her sending a route in the climbing gym or playing volleyball in the sand.
